Welcome here. I’m Nadine.
I provide Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals in the Edmonton area and online.
In the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons I provide the additional option of Walk and Talk Therapy for my individual therapy clients.
I am currently accepting new clients and I would love to do a consult call with you to help you decide if I would be a good fit for what you are looking for.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) draws primarily from attachment theory to facilitate the creation of a secure, vibrant connection with self and others. EFT helps clients identify and transform the negative processing and interaction patterns that create distress. It’s effective in helping issues from marital distress to individual anxiety and trauma.
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
In couples therapy, I work with my clients to help them build a more secure attachment in their relationship so that each partner can provide a sense of security, protection, and comfort for the other. When a couple has a secure attachment with each other they can help each other regulate our own emotions and a more positive sense of self. EFT is about restructuring the relational patterns/cycles and developing an understanding of why and how we get into those patterns in the first place so that we can interrupt them.
The goal of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy is to create a new sense of self and a new way of relating to your partner, which in turn, evokes new responses from that partner.

Emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT) is best for couples who are struggling with communication and understanding each other but are committed to improving their relationship. It can be especially helpful for couples who are experiencing:
Depression
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Addiction
Chronic illness
Childhood abuse or neglect
Anxiety
Eating disorders
Interpersonal issues
Personality disorders
*EFT is not appropriate for couples who are violent or separating*

At the beginning of therapy, you and your partner will be asked to share about the relationship issues that led you to seek out therapy. We will talk about your relationship history and what your desires are for your relationship.
After the first or second session, I will book one individual session with each client to get a better understanding of each client’s perspective and context.
After this, we will work on identifying the negative cycles that come up between you and your partner and how you can interrupt those cycles for a more secure connection with each other.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
In individual therapy, I use EFIT to help my clients process their emotions and build more secure relationships with themselves and others. The process of EFIT offers a structured approach to help individuals address various challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship problems. In a collaborative approach, I work with my clients to identify the patterns that are preventing them from a more positive relationship with others and causing a negative view of themselves. Together, we work on understanding the client’s internal emotional reactions to certain situations and the actions it leads to.
